Silver Surfers Day is a national event that has been running since 2002, offering taster sessions encouraging the over-50s to use the Internet.

We will be bringing computers to the allotments with a wireless link to the internet and World Wide Web and experienced tutors will be on hand to assist participants.

The afternoon of the 25th of May will be an opportunity for those without internet access to see something of the online campaign to save Manor Gardens Allotments and other community organisations around the Olympic site, the work of Hackney Marsh Users Group and more.

Current and former allotmenteers and anyone with memories of times past at MGA are invited to bring any photos, newspaper clippings etc., to be scanned into a digital format for display on a website. (The originals will be returned undamaged immediately after scanning.)

All over fifties welcome – younger people must be accompanied by an over fifty year old please.

HOW TO GET THERE:

Look out for the signs at the entrance by the First Bus Depot on Waterden Road E15 5EE, with the palm tree in the forecourt.

By train or bus – North London Line train to Hackney Wick then 267 bus or 15 min walk:

By car – along the North Circular and towards London on the A12. At the signs for Hackney and New Spitalfields market come off and take the left turn onto Waterden Road where there is limited parking available.
